Cliffhanger 2 with Sylvester Stallone is being funded and shot in Bavaria

The FFF Committee for the Promotion of International Feature Films and Series met today and recommended the project Cliffhanger 2 for funding with two million euros. A large part of the filming will take place in Bavaria. The sci-fi series Varsity (WT), in which Rise FX South is involved as line producer, will also receive funding.

30 years after its premiere at the Festival de Cannes, Cliffhanger is now being continued in the European Alps.

Cliffhanger 2 is a German-British co-production between London-based Black Magic Films and Munich-based Supernix in collaboration with Original Films (USA); producers are Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher as well as Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious) and Toby Jaffe and Philipp Kreuzer and Joe Neurauter. World sales are handled by Rocket Science (Michael Mann's Ferrari, Guy Ritchie's The Gentleman, Julian Schnabel's At Eternity's Gate and David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future). Supernix is a joint venture between the two production companies Maze Pictures and Occupant Entertainment. The films Guns Akimbo, The Crow and Return to Silent Hill were realized here.

Cliffhanger 2 is directed by Jean-François Richet. The writer and director attracted international attention with the award-winning two-part feature film Public Enemy and was recently responsible for the highly successful action thriller Plane. The screenplay was written by Mark Bianculli, author of the feature films The Good Neighbor and White Smoke as well as the series Hunters and Lincoln Rhyme: The Bone Hunter.

Well over half of the filming will take place in Bavaria – in the Penzing Studios and on location in Munich’s city center. Shooting will begin in summer 2024.

FFF Bayern is supporting the production of Cliffhanger 2 with two million euros within the framework of the International Feature Films and Series funding program. In addition, the production will receive a grant of 10,000 euros as part of the FFF Intern Incentive.

150,000 EUROS FOR VARSITY (WT)

Varsity (WT) is the latest spin-off series in Amazon's The Boys universe. Rise FX South, based in Munich, is involved in the production. FFF Bayern is supporting the project in the International Films and Series/Line Producer/Digital Imaging category with 150,000 euros.
