Studio 100 Media / m4e will co-produce Die Biene Maja 3 with its Australian production studio Flying Bark Productions. The German producers are Ulli Stoef and Thorsten Wegener, the Australian producer is Barbara Stephen. The film has already been successfully pre-sold around the world, including to the USA, France and Poland. The theatrical and home entertainment rights for Germany, Austria and Switzerland are with Universum Film.
In this new animated adventure, Maya and Willi will be entrusted with a mysterious ball. However, the two of them do not realize that they are, as a result, thus involved in a threatening War of the Beetles, during which they will have to rescue an Ant Princess and be confronted with strange new places. Their friendship will be put to the hardest of tests.
Studio 100 Media is currently developing its own animation studio in Munich, where a large part of the film will be produced. The screenplay is by Fin Edquist, Alexs Stadermann and Noel Cleary will direct. All three have participated on numerous big animation projects and have worked together on the feature films Maya the Bee – The Movie and Maya the Bee – The Honey Games.
FFF Bayern is supporting the project with 1.57 million euros within the funding scheme for international co-productions. Within the framework of this program, FFF has also supported Oliver Stone’s Snowden, Lisa Langseth’s Euphoria, Rupert Everett’s The Happy Prince, Jason Lei Howden’s Guns Akimbo, and Jonathan Jakubowicz’s Resistance. The awarding is decided by a sub-committee of the Awards Committee. Funding for Kung Fury 2 (see separate press release) was also awarded the day before yesterday.
