Digital Minister and FFF Supervisory Board Chairwoman Judith Gerlach: "Bavaria is far more than just local films. More and more international co-productions are also being produced with Bavarian participation. It is already clear that adapting our funding guidelines was the right step. We want even more high-quality material to be produced in Bavaria and with Bavarian know-how in the future. No matter whether films or series, cinema or streaming - Bavaria's creative talents are always an asset. This applies not only to classical film production, but also to new technologies and narrative forms such as visual effects and virtual reality.
When the International Theatrical Feature and Series funding program was introduced more than six years ago, the FFF had 3.2 million euros in annual funding at its disposal to support major international film projects. This sum was increased to 6 million euros, in 2019 then even 8 million euros became available. The area was initially limited to theatrical film producers, but later also opened up to line producers for digital image design as well as series producers. A subcommittee of the FFF Awards Committee for Film Funding decides on the awardings.
